Our crew took a multi-step approach to correcting the foundation and preventing moisture issues. First, they installed our PowerBrace foundation wall stabilization system to prevent further wall movement and potentially correct the walls back toward their original position.

To tackle the water problem, our crew installed our WaterGuard sub-floor French drain system. This system collects groundwater seepage and drains it via our TripleSafe sump pump system. These steps ensure the basement stays dry and the walls are stabilized to prevent additional cracking and leaning.

A home near Lafayette, Ohio, had a block foundation with severe leaning and stair-step cracking. These cracks had created gaps in the wall that allowed groundwater to seep into the basement. Over time, this can lead to mold and mildew problems in the basement and can cause the foundation to deteriorate further.

With energy prices skyrocketing in recent years, there's no effort too small when it comes to improving the energy efficiency of your home.

One significant factor in home energy efficiency that's often overlooked is right beneath your feet: Your crawl space! Encapsulating your crawl space is an excellent way to reduce your heating and cooling costs and improve the air quality in your home.

Crawl Space Air is Your Home's Air

The conditioning of the air in your crawl space is just as important as that of the rest of your home. Why? According to building scientists, as much as 50% of the air on the first level of your home is air that came from the crawl space. This is due to what's called the Stack Effect. As warm air rises up and escapes out of your home through the upper levels, replacement air is drawn in through the lower levels.

Therefore, if you have a vented crawl space, a continuous flow of cold air in the winter and hot air in the summer is being drawn in and up throughout your entire home, making it harder to heat and cool. This is not to mention all the moisture, dirt, mold spores, and other contaminants that you and your family may be breathing in on a daily basis.

Crawl Spaces & Ductwork

If your crawl space has ducts, the conditioned air passing through them gradually leaks through the joints in the air ducts, creating inefficiencies that drive up your energy costs. In fact, the average home with ducts wastes about 20% to 30% of conditioned air due to duct leakage.

Additionally, crawl spaces with exterior vents introduce humidity, allowing water to condense on the ductwork and warm the air that you pay to condition in the summertime! All these factors lead to higher energy bills.

Encapsulate Your Crawl Space & Save

Dirt crawl spaces cost more to heat and cool. If the crawl space is vented, this further reduces energy efficiency by introducing warm, humid air in the summer and cold air in the winter. Sealing exterior vents and encapsulating the crawl space with the proper insulation and liner can save you as much as 15% to 25% on your energy bill.

Investing in an encapsulated crawl space now will pay off significantly down the line. Call Mid-State Basement Systems today for a free, no-obligation quote of service!

When the spring season brings heavy rains, basement flooding becomes a common issue for homeowners. This is even the case for basements with no obvious cracks or other points of entry for water to get in.

Why is my basement flooded??

If there are no obvious areas allowing water in, then why is the basement flooding? The reality is that water can sneak through even the smallest joints and crevices in a basement.

In fact, the most common entry point for water is the joint between the foundation footer and the foundation walls, known as a cold joint. During construction, the footer is typically poured first and allowed to set. Then, the foundation walls are poured. This process leaves a small seam between the two where, over time, water is able to seep in and lead to basement flooding.

In basements with block foundation walls, soil settlement around the home's foundation can cause it to shift over time, leading to small "stair step" cracks in the block that deepen as settlement progresses, allowing water to seep in.

Heavy rains and basement flooding

Some homes may have these cold joints and minor cracks, but haven't flooded (yet!). Unfortunately, these homes are often only one significant storm or snow melt away from being flooded.

This is because of a phenomenon known as hydrostatic pressure. As soil becomes saturated with water during a rain event, the weight of the water puts increased pressure on the home's foundation.

As water pressure continues to build, it will typically find the path of least resistance (via the joints and cracks in your basement).

What do I do when my basement is flooded with groundwater?

If you wake up after a heavy overnight storm to find that your basement has flooded, give Mid-State Basement Systems a call right away to help you clean up the mess and address the root cause of your basement flooding problem.

The most typical solution for groundwater flooding is a sub-floor basement drainage system like WaterGuard. We install this system around the interior basement perimeter to drain water leaks from cracks and cold joints out of the basement and away from the home.

When paired with a sump pump like our TripleSafe sump pump system, WaterGuard keeps your basement dry all the time--especially when you need it most after snow melt and heavy rains.

We also installed a WaterGuard port that allows access to the system to be serviced. We treated the basement with MoldX to eliminate mold spores and mold growth. We also installed a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifer that drains directly into the sump pump for a low-maintenance solution to high basement humidity.

To address the foundation problem, the crew installed CarbonArmor fiber wall straps to stabilize the bowing, leaning walls. On the exterior of the home, we also extended the downspouts to ensure rainwater was properly drained to the street sewer system. and not saturating the soil around the foundation of the home.

Spring temperatures this season have varied drastically, with some days stretching above 70 degrees and others sinking low into the 20s. Fluctuating temperatures can be a nuisance, and even a costly one to your home. In this blog, we discuss the freeze-thaw cycle and it's impact on your home's foundation.

What is the Freeze-Thaw Cycle?

The Freeze-Thaw cycle occurs when groundwater freezes and thaws repeatedly. When temperatures drop and groundwater freezes, it expands by as much as 9%. This expansion exerts a tremendous amount of pressure on your home's foundation, causing the foundation walls to crack, lean, or bow.

When temperatures begin to rise and the groundwater thaws out, it can create gaps in the soil beneath your home's foundation, causing the foundation to settle unevenly. This can lead to cracks in the foundation and walls of the home.

Once there are cracks in your home's foundation, groundwater can begin to work its way in. As the freeze-thaw cycle begins again, it will cause the cracks to deepen over time and may eventually lead to groundwater leaks in your basement or crawl space.

How to Address Freeze-Thaw Foundation Problems

There are several approaches to address foundation problems caused by the freeze-thaw cycle. Mid-State Basement Systems offers expert repairs for bowing, leaning, and cracked foundation walls. Depending on the extent of the damage, we may recommend the following repairs:

> Downspout extension and gutter repair/replacement to direct rain water away from the home. This keeps less water in the soil and therefore less groundwater to freeze and thaw.

> Seal cracks with our FlexiSpan system: A patented polyurethane sealant that moves with the foundation to resist drying out or re-cracking.

> Foundation settlement repairs such as helical piers or SmartJacks to stabilize the foundation, prevent further movement, and even correct previous movement.

> Structural wall repairs such as PowerBrace or GeoLock stabilizers to correct bowing, leaning foundation walls.

If your home's foundation has any signs of settlement, cracks, leaks, or flooding, give Mid-State Basement Systems a call today for a free inspection and no-obligation quote of service!

Efflorescence is the build up of salt on a brick or concrete wall. While the salt deposit itself is typically harmless, efflorescence can point to a more serious moisture problem in your basement. This can lead to cracks in the foundation, foundation wall failure, basement flooding, and more.

What is Efflorescence?

Efflorescence occurs when ground water seeps through a porous material and then evaporates, leaving behind a powdery deposit of salt. Efflorescence is very common in basements, where groundwater inevitably seeps in through the porous concrete or brick foundation walls.

Minor cases of efflorescence can be easily treated with a dry bristle brush. For more stubborn salt deposits, an acidic cleaner or even vinegar can help remove the buildup. While this can take care of the cosmetic issue, it's important to check and make sure the efflorescence isn't a symptom of a more serious concern.

Underlying Concerns With Efflorescence

Efflorescence can point to a more serious concern with your foundation or basement. If you noticed cracks in your foundation wall, bowing or leaning walls, or moisture pooling on the floors near the basement walls, this indicates a more urgent structural problem that must be addressed to prevent it from getting worse.

Efflorescence on it's own is not a major cause of concern, however, it is a sign that groundwater is making its way into your basement. Mid-State Basement Systems can help diagnose the causes of efflorescence in your basement with a free inspection and provide the right solution for foundation repair or basement waterproofing. Call today!

Our solution to this problem was two-fold: First, we had to stabilize the foundation wall and prevent it from further movement or collapse. We did this by installing our GeoLock wall anchor system.

Heavy-duty earth anchors are embedded in stable soil away from your foundation wall and are then connected to steel anchors with long, galvanized rods. Once tightened, the anchors will hold the wall securely in its current position. This system provides instant stability to the failing wall and can even be tightened to correct the wall over time.

Our crew, led by Levi F., also waterproofed the basement with our WaterGuard french drain system and installed a SuperSump sump pump to keep wall leaks from flooding the basement.

A home in Lima, Ohio, had a block foundation with significant stair-step cracking that was causing the blocks to separate and migrate inward. If left unaddressed, the wall could eventually collapse from the hydrostatic pressure exerted on it from water in the soil. Not only that, but the large cracks were allowing water to leak into the basement as well. After a top-to-bottom inspection, our Sales Inspector, Corey, discussed his findings with the homeowner to find the best solution.

This involves embedding anchors in stable soil and connecting them to steel brackets with a galvanized connecting rod. This system prevents the retaining wall from further movement toward the driveway and can be tightened over time to correct the wall back towards its original position.

When you're dealing with a problem in your home's basement, foundation, and/or crawl space, you want to know how to fix it as soon as possible! Most importantly, you want to have a clear understanding of how much it'll cost to fix.

Our free inspection and estimate appointments are designed to address all these concerns and more. Once you've scheduled your inspection with one of our Sales Inspectors, here's what you can expect during your appointment.

The inspection

Your Sales Inspector will call both to confirm your appointment and once they're on their way to your home on the day of the inspection. Once they arrive, your Sales Inspector will introduce themselves and ask several questions in order to fully understand your concerns.

Then, your Inspector will thoroughly inspect the exterior and interior of your home, taking photos and measurements, and noting any issues or concerns they find along the way.

The Proposal

Once the inspection is complete, your Sales Inspector will sit with you to discuss their findings and draft a customized proposal recommending the best solution for the problems found during the inspection.

These solutions may include interior drainage and waterproofing systems, vapor barriers and crawl space encapsulation solutions, structural piers and supports, and dehumidifiers and other air quality solutions.

Scheduling the Project

Building the proposal is a collaborative process. Once you're happy with the terms of the proposal and you're ready to move forward, your Sales Inspector will schedule a project date that works best for you and your timeline. On that date, we send out our production crew to begin work on the installation.

Still Have Questions? Visit our What to Expect Page for More Information

We make the inspection process as straightforward and transparent as possible to give you peace of mind in our work. If you have additional questions or concerns, feel free to visit our What to Expect Page for additional information.
Crawl Space Encapsulation via Subfloor in Powell, OH

We sent our production crew, led by Foreman Jorge V., to the home to complete the encapsulation project. In order to access the crawl space, the crew carefully removed the wood plank floors in the customer's living room and placed them aside. They then removed the subfloor to expose the crawl space below. The crew then got to work installing drainage matting on the crawl space floor to help with moisture dispersion. Next, they laid the CleanSpace liner on top of the drainage matting to seal the crawl space from the ground.

The crew also managed to squeeze a sump pump system and dehumidifier in the crawl space as well. Since this crawl space is particularly difficult to access, we hooked up the system to a WaterWatch alarm to alert the homeowner to high water levels. This allows time for intervention before any water damage occurs.

After tidying up the crawl space, the crew replaced the subfloor and left the living room broom-clean. The homeowner now has peace of mind knowing that her crawl space is moisture, mold, and pest-free!

A homeowner in Powell, Ohio, was dealing with moisture and mold in their crawl space. Our Sales Inspector, Joe D., paid a visit to the home to investigate the extent of the problem and recommend a solution to address it. The inspection was an interesting one due to how small the crawl space was. There was only about 8-10 inches of clearance between the ground and the floor joists! Once the inspection was complete, Joe recommended encapsulating the crawl space to seal out moisture and the homeowner agreed to have us come out to compete the job.

Snowmageddon 2026 is finally beginning to melt, and all that water has to go somewhere! If your basement's not properly waterproofed, the snow melt may end up flooding your basement. Luckily, there are a few steps you can take to prevent your basement from flooding as spring temperatures return and the snow begins to melt.

Preventing flooding from snow melt

There are several steps you can take both before and once the snow begins to melt to make sure your basement is protected from floods. For starters, it's important to remove as much snow as possible from the roof and perimeter of your home to prevent the gutters from being overwhelmed by rapid snow melt. Also, make sure to keep snow piles away from the foundation where they will eventually melt and potentially cause basement flooding.

It's not too late to act once the snow has begun to melt. You can remove blockages from gutters, drains, and downspouts to make sure the water is properly channeled away from your home's foundation. If your basement has a sump pump, ensure that it is functioning properly and is also clear of any debris or blockages.

Basement waterproofing with Mid-State Basement Systems

Most importantly, it's critical to make sure your basement is properly waterproofed to prevent flooding during any season. Mid-State Basement Systems offers basement waterproofing with our patented WaterGuard interior basement drainage system that prevents flooding due to snow melt and heavy rains.

WaterGuard effectively captures wall and floor seepage before it reaches your basement floor. Water enters the system via inlet holes and flows through the drainage pipe to your sump pump. We can even upgrade your sump pump with our TripleSafe sump pump, a 3-pump-in-1 system that protects against pump failure, power outages, and high water volume. Give us a call today or visit our Free Estimate page to learn more and get started!

Finishing your basement is a big investment. That's why you want to make sure you get the job done right the first time. When it comes to the walls, TBF Everlast panels are better for your basement because they will never mold, rot, or get ruined by a flood or leak.

TBF EverLast

TBF EverLast Basement Wall Panels are 4-foot-wide panels made of thick, high-density closed cell foam insulation. The panels have a 1/2-inch cement board panel on the face and a durable vinyl finish.

These panels are designed for basement environments and will never mold, rot, dent, or be ruined by moisture, unlike drywall which must be replaced every time it gets wet.

TBF EverLast panels are also highly functional. They will never need to be painted and you can hang anything on them no matter how heavy. Nail and screw holes can be easily patched with putty.

Why Choose Us?

Mid-State Basement Systems is proud to offer TBF EverLast and a range of other basement finishing products as part of our Total Basement Finishing service. When you finish your basement with us, you can rest assured that the final result will last for years to come, backed by our 50-year warranty!

If you're interested in learning more about our Total Basement Finishing service, give us a call today or visit our Free Estimate page for a free inspection and quote!

Every year during the holidays, Mid-State Basement Systems pays it forward to our community through a donation drive or other volunteer activity with a local non-profit. This year, our team came together to help children in need by donating over 50 brand-new bedding items, including pillows, blankets, sheet sets, comforters, and, of course, stuffed animals!

We delivered the donations to the Hilliard chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a local non-profit that builds children's beds in homes where they are urgently needed. Through Sleep in Heavenly Peace, we learned that as many as 7,023 kids in Franklin county alone do not have a bed to sleep in at night. That means 7,023 kids who, every night, sleep on the floor, on the couch, in a chair, or anywhere except in a comfortable bed.

We are deeply inspired by the work of our friends and volunteers at Sleep in Heavenly Peace. Their mission is one of critical importance, and we are grateful for the opportunity to help ensure that every child in our community has a safe and comfortable place to sleep every night!

Finish your basement floors the right way with ThermalDry® Elite Plank flooring!

Choosing the right flooring for your finished basement is crucial. With the right materials, your basement floor will be beautiful, durable, and last for years to come. However, with the wrong materials, your investment could become a big cost burden after just one plumbing leak or flood.

How to Choose the Right Floors for Your Basement

When it comes to choosing the right flooring for your new basement, it doesn't have to be complicated. As a rule of thumb, you want to avoid organic materials such as wood in the basement.

These materials aren't suited for basement environments where moisture, leaks, and floods are bound to happen eventually. And, when these organic materials get wet, they will warp, rot, and get moldy.

Suddenly, your investment in a finished basement turns into a nightmare repair job. With most other contractors, they will simply rip out the ruined wood and drywall and replace it with the same thing, allowing the cycle to continue.

Get the Job Done Right with ThermalDry Elite Plank Flooring

ThermalDry Elite Plank Flooring is the perfect flooring solution for finished basements. Made with inorganic materials, ThermalDry Elite gives the warm, attractive look and feel of real wood and is completely unaffected by moisture.

Benefits of ThermalDry Elite:

> Luxurious wood plank look

> Water and mold resistant

> Easy to install, modular design

> Thermal break for more comfortable floors

Available in four attractive finishes, ThermalDry Elite is a durable, waterproof, and mold-resistant solution that will protect your investment for years to come and allow you to enjoy beautiful basement floors with no warping, rotting, or mold growth.

And, if your basement does leak or flood, the modular planks can easily be removed, cleaned, and re-installed, giving you complete peace of mind.

Finish Your Basement with Confidence

That's because warm air rises throughout each level of your home, and when it does, the cold air in your basement takes its place. This "stack effect" means that as much as 50 percent of the air on the first floor of your home is air that came from the basement.

For this reason, it's incredibly important to make sure your basement or crawl space is properly sealed and insulated from the cold. While vented crawl spaces were and still are common, we know today that it is much better to seal them off from the elements. Basement windows, walls, and rim joists should all be properly insulated as well, typically with foam insulation.

Taking these steps will make your home much more comfortable and less drafty during the cold winter months. Even better, insulating and sealing your basement or crawl space will significantly improve your home's heating (and cooling!) efficiency.

Total Basement Finishing is one of the most valuable investments you can make in your home!

When done right, finishing your basement is more than just another expense: It's an investment in your home. A finished basement allows you and your family to live more comfortably with more space, improves energy efficiency and air quality throughout your home, and provide as much as a 75% return on investment.

The Benefits of Total Basement Finishing

The first major benefit of a finished basement is, of course, more living space! On the blank canvas of an empty basement, you can transform this dark, forgotten place into anything from a workout room, movie theater, bar, billiards room, guest bedroom, playroom, and the list goes on.

The second benefit of a finished basement is improved energy efficiency and air quality throughout your home. When finished with mold and moisture-resistant materials from Total Basement Finishing, your basement will be transformed into a healthy, comfortable living space. Basements are also easier to heat and cool, and since the air in your basement rises up to other levels in your home, the air throughout your home will be better conditioned, too. Lastly, finishing your basement is the least expensive way to increase your living space. Compared to building a new addition or moving to a new home, finishing the basement is simpler, less complicated, and much faster. Once more, a finished basement can provide homeowners with as much as a 75% return on investment in terms of property value and quality of life.

Why Total Basement Finishing with Mid-State?

To reap the most reward from a finished basement, the job has to be done right. Finishing your basement with Total Basement Finishing products ensures that your newly finished basement will be moisture, mildew, and mold resistant. Not only that, but our products are also backed by some of the best warranties in the industry. If you're ready for a basement transformation, give us a call today or visit our Free Estimate page for a no-obligation quote of service.

The homeowner was ready for a permanent fix by a trustworthy company at a good price. He was happy with our Solution Specialist's recommendation, so he chose us. He carefully read through our online reviews, and was pleased with our rating by other homeowners. Our solution was to install our waterproofing products around the perimeter of his basement and install one of our best sump pumps.

First, we had the homeowner clear out any small personal items and our crew removed bookshelves and larger items out of the way. Our crew then removed old foam insulation that was used to try to keep the leaking from the corner of the basement at bay. DIY fixes are not the way to go for serious flooding in your home.

We then jackhammered the perimeter of the basement to make way for our products and made weep holes in the wall, so trapped water could find its way out. They then installed the WaterGuard and TrenchDrain around the perimeter of the basement. The WaterGuard is best for collecting water from the surface area and walls, and the TrenchDrain is great for collecting water at openings, such as garage doors. These products then get cemented into your floor for that permanent fix! We also installed a new TripleSafe Sump Pump with Battery Backup, to ensure the beasement stays dry, all the time!

This homeowner has lived in his home for many years and planned on it being his forever home and passing it down to his family. Unfortunately, for the past few years he has had problems with flooding in his basement. He had been using his basement for storage, but the frequent heavy rains in the spring would bring in water and his storage space became smaller and smaller. He was ready for a permanent fix, so he could take back his basement!

The homeowners realized they needed to repair the wall and leakage to prevent further damage and get rid of the mold growing behind the drywall. This is a great example of why it's important to waterproof a basement before finishing it!

Our expert crew, led by foreman Milton Castro, tore down the drywall in order to install a WaterGuard sub-floor drainage system and PowerBrace I-beams. WaterGuard is a unique french drain system only available from Basement Systems suppliers. It sits directly on the concrete footer and is designed to collect water from underground, on the floor, and through the walls. It is installed at a slight angle to drain the water into a sump pump which will pump it up and away from the home.

PowerBrace I-beams are galvanized steel beams that are bolted to the concrete and floor joists above and push against the damaged wall. These beams can be tightened over time to slowly push the wall back to its original position.

The homeowners are happy with the waterproofing and foundation stabilization work we completed, however, they are disappointed that they now have to refinish that wall and part of the floor. Again, this is why it's very important to waterproof a basement before finishing it.

Unfortunately, this would require tearing down the drywall on the affected wall.

We installed several products to repair all of the issues in this home. Our crew, led by foreman Byron Salinas, first performed a dig and push on one of the walls. This is a technique preserved for the most damaged walls when they have moved so far out of place that they need to be realigned from the outside.

After that, they installed PowerBrace steel I-beams to support the newly aligned wall and prevent further movement. They also placed these along the other cracked walls to prevent those from moving. PowerBraces are galvanized steel beams that are fastened to the floor joists and concrete slab. They can be tightened over time to shift the walls even more if need be.

Then, they moved on to the waterproofing part of the project. This involved installing a WaterGuard subfloor drainage system around the perimeter of the basement, as well as a SuperSump sump pump, and a new discharge line to make sure all water now and in the future is exported out of the home.

Now, Lisa no longer has to worry about the structural integrity of her new home or water leaking in the basement, so she can start on other projects such as making it feel like home.

Our expert crew, led by foreman Raul Calderon, went out during the scheduled project time and got straight to work. They hammered out the area around the perimeter of the basement and crawlspace to install WaterGuard sub-floor drains on the concrete footer of the home. These are patented french drains that you can only find with Basement Systems dealers. They have holes in the sides and a flange along the wall to catch water coming from any direction. The drains were installed at a slight angle so the water will drain to the SuperSump and Smart Sump sump pumps the crew set up next. These are pumps for a basement and crawl space, respectively, that can pump thousands of gallons out of the home per hour.

They finished the job by installing CleanSpace vapor barrier throughout the basement and crawl space. They covered the walls in the basement area and completely encapsulated the crawl space. This is a heavy, 20-millimeter thick liner that's similar to a swimming pool liner. The 7-layer construction combines high-density polyethylene for puncture resistance, low-density polyethylene for flexibility, and polyester cord for reinforcement. The bright white finish brightens the area. The "UltraFresh" additive prevents mold from growing on the liner.

The homeowners are happy with their decision to go with Mid-State Basement Systems. They no longer have to worry about dampness or wetness in their basement or crawl space—and those areas look great now too thanks to CleanSpace walls!

A homeowner in Prospect, OH noticed that water was coming through the base of the walls in his basement, as well as crumbling walls in his crawl space. The crawl space area was dirty and wet.

We sent Phil Matthews, a certified inspector for Mid-State Basement Systems, to the home after the owner called us for help. Phil evaluated the problem and proposed several products that would permanently solve these issues. He explained how CleanSpace walls would keep out moisture from getting into the home, but still allow air circulation so that mold wouldn't grow. He also showed them how they could install a WaterGuard sub-floor draining system to remove all water from the home and pump it out with a Zoeller cast-iron sump pump.

The homeowners decided to move forward with Phil's recommendations.

The homeowners agreed to do the work and our skilled crew, lead by foreman Milton Castro, went out and installed a WaterGuard sub-floor drainage system, a SuperSump sump pump, Carbon Fiber strips, PowerBrace i-beams, and redirected to downspouts away from the home.

WaterGuard is a sub-floor drainage system developed by Basement Systems that is unlike any other french drain system. To install it, the crew dug a trench along the whole perimeter of the basement and placed the WaterGuard drains directly on the foundation footing. It has holes in the sides to collect water from the ground, on top of the floor, and from the walls. There is a specialized flange on the WaterGuard drain that is installed against the wall to catch any water that may drip down it.

These drains are installed at a slight angle so any water collected will drain into the sump pump and be pumped out of the home. This is where the SuperSump sump pump comes in. It is a non-clogging cast iron pump that s able to pump more than 2,000 gallons of water every hour. This was connected to the downspouts and drainage pipes that were lengthened redirected away from the home instead of along the foundation wall. This way, it will not seep back into the basement.

Then, the crew focused on the foundation repair aspect. There were two walls in particular that needed some repair. One had a severely shifted row of cement blocks at the top. For this, the crew installed PowerBrace beams. These are steel i-beams that are installed in the ground and bolted to the floor joists overhead. They will uphold the wall to prevent further inward movement and can be tightened over time to try to push the wall back to its original position.

Next, they used Carbon Fiber strips along the other wall. These are strips of carbon fiber which is an extremely durable material with high tensile strength. This means that it is virtually impossible to rip or tear it. The crew securely fastened these to the floor joists and floor along the other wall and glued them against it. This will ensure there is no more shifting and keep it from settling as much as the other wall had already.

The homeowners are happy with the repairs and no longer have to worry about the basement leaking or the integrity of the foundation.

Homeowners in Amesville, OH called Mid-State Basement System because they had flooding in their basement that had damaged and waterlogged the paneling on the walls.

Once they had taken down the damaged paneling, they also noticed that the cement block walls were cracked and shifting. They were concerned that the top row of cement blocks, in particular, would eventually collapse inward. They also used the basement for storage and did not want their belongings to be damaged from recurrent flooding. One of our certified inspectors went out to the home to take a look and proposed using several methods and products to repair the complex issues in this basement.

The cafe owner decided to go with Mid-State Basement Systems and our expert crew, let by foreman Bryon Salinas, came out to install the products. First, they installed the WaterGuard subfloor drainage system around the full perimeter of the basement to prevent more water leakage. These are drains with a unique and patented design to collect water from the walls, under the floor, and on the floor. They are installed at a slight angle so the water collected drains into the sump pump. For this purpose, the crew also installed a Triple Safe Sump Pump to efficiently pump excess water out of the building.

The sump pump was then connected to new discharge lines that lead outside, through the yard underground, and out into the street drains away from the building.

They also installed a CleanSpace vapor barrier against all of the walls. This is a 20-millimeter thick vapor barrier similar to a pool liner. It will keep out any moisture, pests, bacteria, and more, and make the basement look clean and bright.

Finally, since there was occasionally water pooling at the bottom of the stairs leading into the basement, the crew installed a TrenchDrain at the bottom to catch water before it enters the basement. This drain is also connected to the WaterGuard system and will b pumped out with the sump pump.

Now the cafe owner has a safe and clean space underneath his business for storage.

It was an old and damp area with exposed brick walls. The owner had gotten a couple of different estimates from other companies but wanted just one more. A series of PowerBraces were installed at multiple locations around the basement wall to reinforce the bowing walls and to support any sagging floor joists. The load-bearing distribution area of the braces was increased by installing additional beams that ran perpendicular to the PowerBraces already in place against the wall. PowerBraces are steel I-beams that are custom-fit to your basement wall with brackets that are secured to your basement floor and floor joists. Powerbraces immediately stabilize the wall to prevent any further movement. The PowerBraces are designed to be tightened over time and can potentially straighten the wall. This solution provided a permanent solution that completely stabilized the basement walls and the unstable floor joists, preventing any further damage to that would have occurred otherwise.

To keep humidity low, they installed a SaniDry™ Sedona Dehumidifier. The SaniDry™ Sedona is the world's most efficient, high-performance dehumidifier and filtration system (without a bulky heat exchange core).
If you notice cracks in your basement walls, sagging walls, or water in your basement, contact MidState Basement Systems to set up a FREE consultation with a Certified Inspector.
